Michael Maidens R.I.P.

20th October 2007

It's with sadness that I write this update. Michael Maidens was last night killed in a road accident. Michael made 31 appearances in all competitions for the club, scoring one goal. His goal (v Hudderfield, 11/03/2006) was named Pools Goal Of The Season for 2005-06. He was only 20.
My thoughts are with Michael's family and friends.

It's here at last!

11th August 2007

After three months without competitive football and 15 months after leaving League One the 2007-08 League One campaign is under way! Sadly, the new season has begun with a 2-1 defeat at Kenilworth Road, but there's plenty of positives to take from the game.

Good luck Effy.

9th May 2007

The announcement of the retained list from the club today has brought the blue and white curtain down on 10 of the clubs pro's. With 768 games under their collective belt, most of the released players have been likely cadidates for a while due to high wages, old legs or youngsters who are surplus to requirements, but one in particular stands out for me as a big gamble.
Eifion Williams's release today marks the end of a 6 year Pools career, covering our most successful period to date. I'm sure that a League Two team will be Effy's destination, and they will take him to their heart, as we have since his debut in a 1-1 draw with Bristol Rovers at the Vic' in February 2002.

Bring on the Leeds!!

8th May 2007

The usual ups and downs throughout the season, ending in a sadly familar strange feeling of both absolute joy and disappointment. A staggering turn around from 16th place after 17 games, to the top of the league before February was out. Losing the title on the last day is hard to take, but it's difficult to be downbeat about what is statistically proven to be our best ever season. Hopefully we can rediscover our form of the Spring and kick off another successful season in 2007-08.

2006-07 Match updates.

8th May 2007

The 2006-07 season has been updated to include the final game agianst Bristol Rovers.

We're going up, going up, Pools are going up!

15th April 2007

Na na, na na, na na, na na, na, na, na. We're going up, going up, Pools are going up!

Less that 12 months have passed since we were condemned to the basement, our return to League One has been confirmed after a great win at Wycombe. Records have fallen left, right and centre but there's one more big prize still to be won and the players aren't taking their foot off the gas. Come on lads.

2006-07 Kicks off!

4th August 2006

The new season excitement is slowing being replaced by nerves as the kick off approaches. A lack of signings is surprising but Wilson's philosophy of seeing how the land lies before he brings anyone in, is a good move. The first eleven is strong enough to challenge, but a few injuries in certain positions could really cause problems. Hopefully we'll have a lot to cheer this year, and end the season on a high. Come on Pools!!

Good luck Boydy.

31st July 2006

Well, the rumours have been rife for weeks, and today Adam Boyd's move to Luton Town has been finalised. Boydy leaves his hometown club having made quite an impression since his debut in November 1999 in a 3-0 victory over Barnet. Goals like his first against Shrewsbury and the chip that clinched his hat-trick against Sheffield Wednesday in April 2005 will always stay in the memory. 60 goals in 170 games is a good return for a young player whose inconsistancy almost led to a permanent move to Boston, how different thing would've been had Boston met our £5,000 fee!

Good luck in your career, Adam. Except when you come up against Pools!

Wilson appoints assistant.

4th July 2006

United announce that former Norwich player Ian Butterworth will be Danny Wilson's second in command. The ex-Cardiff assistant manager joins the club after arriving from Germany where he assisted the FA with scouting for the World Cup. Butterworth holds UEFA B, A and Pro Licences so his appointment seems to be a good step forward, from the inexperience that we've had for a number of years. The only blot on his CV is a spell at Feethams assisting Dogdy Hodgy!!

Danny Wilson appointed.

13th June 2006

After a long period of uncertainty Pools have named former MK Dons, Barnsley and Sheffield Wednesday boss, Danny Wilson as the club's forty-second manager. A good move to being in an experienced man, hopefully he'll be able to stamp his authority on the team and we can forget about 2005-06. Details of Wilson's managerial career so far can be found in the Staff section.

2005-06 Season Update.

8th May 2006

The 2005-06 season has been updated to include the final league game of what was a terrible season for the club. The last in League One for at least 15 months despite having, I think every fan will agree, one of the best squads that the club has every had. We all know that the injuries along with a number of failed signings (at both player and management level) has cost us dear, but we will have to look to the future with games against Rochdale, Macclesfield and Mansfield once again becoming our league staples.

1908-09 Teamsheets and player info.

9th July 2005

A major update of the 1908-09 is now viewable. Starting XI's for every game played, in the North-Eastern League, F.A. Cup, Durham Senior Cup and various friendlies including the clubs first overseas tour. Also details of every player who appeared for Pools in it's first season is also avalable to look at.

All data for the club's first season have been kindly supplied by the author of a new book 'In The Beginning - Hartlepools United 1908-1921'. Keep checking the site for more details of release dates and places to buy the book from.

2005-06 Fixtures!.

Discipline.

12th June 2005

New pages have been added to the List section. These concern sendings off, both for Hartlepool but also for the opposition.

List Section and menu.

11th June 2005

A new section has been added. The List section has been created to hold a number of varied lists and info, rather that add it all in the 'Records' section which will now be solely used for actual club records.
The existing right-hand side menu is currently being updated, a bolder and more noticable list which also includes the new 'List' section. As there is over 7,000 pages the changes will take a while to filter through the entire site, but the old style menu is still fully functional.

Final Season Update.

30th May 2005

The 2004-05 season has been updated to include the unbelievable Millennium Stadium visit.

Lyric Sheet for the Millennium.

21st May 2005

Are you travelling to Wales with some non-Poolies, or is there people in your party that don't normally turn out at the Vic'? If so, they'll need to know the words to the Poolie anthem, Two Little Boys. I've created a PDF with the fantastic lyrics, all you need to do it print and cut, voila four people can join in!
View it HERE or right-click to Save

Pools Songs.

13th May 2005

I've made a number of United related Mp3s available for download for a short time. Enjoy while you can.

Managerial page update.

4th May 2005

After todays surprising announcement regarding Neale Cooper's departure from the Vic' the managerial pages have been updated with Coopers averages and a new page has been added for Martin Scott.

Nail-biting season endings.

30th April 2005

As has become traditional at this time of year, Pools have managed to make the final match of the season a high-stakes game. This has been the case for the last six seasons on the trot, and to improve the mood of Pools fans everywhere I've added details of each nail biting conclusion for your viewing pleasure. It does indeed makes for happy reading as we have managed to succeed in the majority of our final day aims despite playing four out of five (so far) away from the Vic'.
Hopefully in seven days time the final entry can be completed with a possitive outcome!

West Hartlepool's F.A. Amateur Cup win.

29th March 2005

To commemorated the centenary of West Hartlepool's F.A. Amateur Cup win a number of new pages have been added. An excellent narrative has been kindly supplied by Mr. C. Foster, new information regarding their route to the final and Pen-Pics of the Starting XI have both been uploaded.
The colour schemes of the new pages as well as other West centric pages, such as the timeline, have been altered to reflect the club's Amber and Black colours.

New data supplied.

19th February 2005

The teamlist for the 1912 non-League game at Gateshead Town and player info for F.C. Mearns has been kindly contributed by a Hartlepool fan and historian, keep your eyes peeled for more in the future.

Poolstats to supply data.

11th February 2005

I'm pleased to annouce that Poolstats are to supply data to the Official site for their 'Stat Attack' feature in the build up to every match. I'm happy to know that the club, as well as the fans are apreciative of my efforts for this site.

74 'New' Players Found!

22nd January 2005

I've fixed a glaring ommission in the player data section. The 74 players from the Non-League era who appeared in the F.A. Cup in Hartlepool colours have been added to the players section. I've used the individual player pages as a first rollout of the new game list stats. Selecting the 'Games Played In' link opens a pop-up with the full list of competitive games that the individual player has competed in.

Penalty Scorers

15th January 2005

I've added yet another new section at the bottom of the Records page featuring every player who has scored a penalty as well as every game to finish with a penalty shoot out.

27th October 2004

I've added a new section at the bottom of the Records page featuring every player who has scored after coming on as a substitute.

15th October 2004

In honour of Tony Sweeney's hat-trick today I've added a new section at the bottom of the Records page featuring every player who has bagged a hat-trick (and more) for Pools.

Happy Birthday to PoolStats!!

7th June 2004

Well, as the heading suggest PoolStats is One today!! No cake and pop, or balloons and streamers for it however as there's a lot of work to be done before the grand opening on 4th August. That gives me just enough time to nip over to Portugal for a while!!

Reserve league tables.

17th February 2004

Again it's been a while, unfortunately, there seems to be less and less time to complete the historical detail. This time I've researched a large poprortion of the reserve league tables, there is still a number of missing seasons (58-77 and 88-98) but it's a good foundation.

2003-04 Apps updated.

6th January 2004

It's a while since I last updated the site, but I've got a lot of work behind the scenes sorted out, hopefully we should be 100% ready soon.
Anyway, I've updated the 2003-04 appearence data on both the Fixtures/Results list and the Players page (both for the individuals and the lists in order of apps/goals etc.)

WOW!!! - It's been a while in coming, but all 90 seasons are now uploaded, results list, match details, league table and appearance data for every year is now available to browse through.

There is still a heck of a lot of stuff left to do, but the site is definately, ready for action!

Ten seasons uploaded.

6th Novmeber 2003

Ten (yes, 10!!) new seasons have been uploaded, these are the 1970's seasons 1970's seasons. This upload only includes match data for the first four seasons, but result listing, league table and appearance data for all years are there to look at. Also updated are the entire Opposition data, now showing all-time stats, as well as the entire meeting record!!

The reason that it's been so long since a site update, is because I felt that it would be more advantageous to finish my spreadsheets with the seasonal data and the combined all-time meeting stats, rather than update the site little by little. As you've probably guessed, I have now completed my spready's and should have ALL the data up in the next few weeks!! - Please sign up for the mailing list for first notification of the grand opening!!!!!!!!

More pieces added.

4th October 2003

Yet another update without adding any game data! I've added a Suggestion box to let me know of any changes you'd like to see made or things that I could add to improve the site. I've made a few changes to the home page (as you've probably spotted) - I've changed the way that the completion status is displayed, instead of a table, there's now a ticker, that uses up a lot less space. The last thing I've added is the 'Birthday Greeting' below the title on the home page.

Happy Birthday Mam!

Mailing List created!

1st October 2003

No seasons updates today (Shock Horror!!!) I've created a mailing list form for users to fill out, hopefully I will be able to keep you all up to date with changes with having to come on to the site everyday - not that I don't want hits, believe me! - Although, if you do sign up there won't be an awful lot of correspondance at this stage, but I'll try to keep on top of things. Also, I've changed the contact me and the Sources pages.

Two thirds done!!

30th September 2003

Another two seasons are finished, the 1963-64 and the 1964-65 season have been uploaded, with full results list, individual match data along with the league table and appearance pages.

62-63 season complete.

28th September 2003

Another season has been completed, the 1962-63 season has been uploaded, with full results list, individual match data along with the league table and appearance pages.

I've added some information to the player pages, where applicable, the pages now include seasons in which the player finished as top scorer, or where he made the most apps as well as showing the players position if he is in the top 50 scorers or appearance listing for any competitions.

25th September 2003

Another two season have been completed, the 1960-61 and the 1961-62 seasons have been uploaded, with full results list, individual match data along with the league table and appearance pages. I've also updated all seasons with the new table and appearance pages.

Change to season data.

24th September 2003

I've changed the way that the season data is displayed, the league table and where applicable the re-election details are no longer displayed on the same page as the result listing. Now the 'league table' link will open a new browser session, the new page will only have the table and the votes. Hopefully this change should make both screens a lot quick in loading.

Another change to the season pages is the creation of a new 'apps' link, this link works in the same way as the new 'table' link, a new browser session opens displaying that seasons appearance data. Currently only the seasons upto 1959-60 have been updated.

This includes our best ever finish of 2nd in 1956-57 and also the famous game against the Busby Babes. This upload means that our entire Division Three (North) historical data is now on the site! Yay, although, there's still over 35 years left to sort out.

Yet another season has been completed. The 1953-54 season has been uploaded. This brings the total to 49 seasons out of 90 have been completed!!

Another batch done!

16th September 2003

The seasons keep appearing as quickly as Pools goals on a Friday night!!! The 1950-51, 1951-52 and 1952-53, seasons are complete! The results list and individual match data have both been uploaded to the site.

This update has filled the first of the directories I had to set up when the 'too many files' problem occurred. The directory now hold data for matches numbered 0001-1500, hopefully the switch to the 1501-3000 directory should be seamless and fingeres crossed it should start to fill up nicely

I've also update the Contact page with an acknowledgements section.

Halfway (ish)!!!!!

14th September 2003

Another four seasons are now complete (1946-47, 1947-48, 1948-49 and 1949-50) Which all means that the site is pretty much halfway on the road to completion.

45 out of 90 seasons are now complete, as are 2,075 (out of 4,195) matches. This is dead on halfway (although to be precise I'm 2 games away from 50% completion, but who's counting? - Alright, I know I am, whatever!). The Staff Section was the first part to be 100% complete, the Player records are 100% complete and the opposition data is all complete bar the 1946-1989 meeting listings.

The only thing that's letting the side down is the "On This Day" section which is a massive ZERO percent complete!!! - I intend to leave this section until the rest of the data is finished, although as with most things I may decide to do something sooner rather than later.

All Opposition data complete

13th September 2003

Over the last week or so I've complete the whole opposing team data pages these include club info, directions (for the league and conference clubs) head to head stats and listings of every game played - although, there is no data for the years 46-47 up to 89-90 as I haven't started on that yet.

I think I've done well to get these pages done correctly as I was working on them while listening to Pools World comm of that game!!! - I still can't believe that we scored eight times, FANTASTIC!

Pre War Complete!

3rd September 2003

Over the last couple of days I've complete another five seasons (matches and listings). These are, 1934-35, 1935-36, 1936-37, 1937-38 and 1938-39. This means that the entire pre-war record (1908-1939) is now complete as well as the Victory leagues during the second world war and every season from 1990-91 up to 2002-03. Marvellous!

Moving house!

29th August 2003

Hopefully all of the file that needed moving to their new home have now been filed in the correct places (what are the chances!!) All the games from 1908 until 1934 and the games played during the war (pretty much a thousand) should be viewable, as should be all games played between 1990 and 2003 (around six hundred files). These can be viewed via the particular season. I've also updated the game list pages for each Football League season, they now will show the promoted and relegated teams as well as teams involved in any play-offs or re-election situation.

More seasons complete!

28th August 2003

I've completed another eight!! seasons (1930-31, 1931-32, 1932-33, 1933-34, 1995-96, 1996-97, 1997-98 and 1998-99) obviously, as things stand with the 'too many files' situation (as Glenn would call it) the match data hasn't been uploaded although I'm hoping to have the new space sorted by tomorrow so fingers crossed it'll be sorted fully then.

Assessing the situation.

21st August 2003

I've just 'updated' the site by removing a number of match data pages as these are the ones that, I think, will have to move on to the new site. There has been a positive update as well, the player histories are now complete. All 980 players ever to pull on the blue and white in competitive first team action now have a page dedicated to them (even John Borthwick!!).

I will, at some point, create a A-Z listing of players which will aid navigation, but until then the ID's are the main way to find players (the match data that's still up should also).

After yesterday's stumbling block, I'm not sure when the next update will be, as I'll be concentrating on changing links on existing pages and trying to fathom out how to split things up. *SIGH* At least the England highlights cheered me up last night!

Not as many updates as I was expecting.

20th August 2003

Another four seasons have been completed. These are 1991-92, 1992-93, 1993-94 and 1994-95. Unfortunately, and very unexpectedly, as I was uploading the individual matches and the data of the players involved I got a lovely error message telling me that I've 'Exceeded my maximum number of files.' (Surely the size of files rather than number is more important, and as I've only used 25Mb of 100 there shouldn't be a problem) Great!?! - It would've been nice to have been warned that there was a max file number when I signed up for the web-site, but there you go. Thanks Freeserve. I've signed up for more space, on a different site so hopefully I can spilt the site between the two (or three, or four, or five..........) without any noticable difference, but this will take some time as I'll need to take stuff off this site and move it over, and also update every page (as each page links to at least one team, one player, one match, one date and one season these will all need to be changed.)

The England highlights had better be good after this!

What a lot of work!

29th July 2003

A few updates to the site over the last few days.
Firstly, a new completion page - mainly for me to know where I'm at - has been created, also the table at the top of this page, has an overview of the completed and unfinished pages.

Secondly, the 1910-11, 1911-12 and 1912-13 seasons are finished, both results list and individual match.

Another day another season!

23rd July 2003

Or to be more precise, a results listing. The 1990-91 season is half finished, the list is there but the individual games are not yet.

I'm going home for a week and a bit so the site won't be updated for a while, but it's only 16 days until our 4,196th competitive game (our 3,349th game in the Football League) or Posh as it's more commonly known!! Updates will resume after the trip to London Road.

I've also sorted out all the results list from the season 1909-10.

More new pages

17th July 2003

A few more new pages are on the site, the first is a fairly boring contact me page, perhaps in the fullness of time I'll update this with more information about why I've done the site and thanks/acknowldegements etc. but for now it only has my e-mail address on there.
The second is more interesting (no, really!), the club info page is complete with current back-room staff and current playing squad although the players do not link to their stats yet (I need something to keep me busy!)

Front pages for two sections.

12th July 2003

A couple of weeks have passed since I last did anything to the site, but a few updates in the last 24 hours. The 'Past Seasons' now has a front page, although all of the links do not work yet as each season's info is yet to be sorted out.
The second update is the 'On This Day' section, or to be more precise, the front page of the section, which now hosts a calendar with 366 broken links!! although i might get around to setting up a template in the near future so watch this space! (perhaps Feb 29 would be easiest to do - I must check to see if anything has ever happened on the 29th!!)

Marco Gabbiadini!?! - I almost choked on my water when I read the SMS message from the club.

Nothing to do with the site but....

28th June 2003

Who!?! Well, we've annouced that Neale Cooper is the new boss. My initial impression was one of surprise that we've gone for a relative unknown over the many experienced men who were being touted about, but the more I think about it, the more I think that it's a good move. He's got a good record with Ross, and appears to have a personality! (a change from the last man in charge.)
Michael Nelson seems to be a great buy as well (I must find his details to update my spready.) a quality replacement for Spike (good luck at Wednesday.)

Neale Cooper's white with blue pinstripe army!!!

Even more new pages!!

21st June 2003

I've now added the match details for the five games against Wrexham I updated not so long ago. The details of our first league game is complete (although some of the links don't go anywhere as yet.

More new pages!!

21st June 2003

Not only new pages but, SHOCK HORROR, actual content!! on the main opponents page I've added a looooong list of teams that will no doubt expand vastly in the coming months, the only teams I've added pages for are the div. two clubs (all have correct club info, but a layout with wrong game data). The only club I've added anything else to is Wrexham. It seemed the logical place to start as they were our first opponents in the league.
The goalscorers from the five games I've added are now selectable and will give you the details of the players invovled! - Slowly it's coming together.

A new page!!

21st June 2003

Hopefully this site will become something great, but as it stands there's very little actual content. All I have actually uploaded is the new season's fixtures which are, hopefully, the first step on the ladder!

Fixtures!!!

20th June 2003

Finally, after what seems like months since the season finished, the new season's (Division Two!!!!!) fixtures are out, at first glance they don't seem too bad, plenty of Southern games for me (YAY!) most being played on Saturday afternoons which is great! Hopefully I can make it to lots more games than last season. Now all I need to do is make them the first meaningful content on the site.

Let's not mention the kit....

Open for business!

19th June 2003

I've finally found my place on the 'net - albeit, at a rather long winded URL - hopefully, once there's something significant on here I'll look at moving to a more concise address.
It's basically a shell at the moment, but fingers crossed by the start of the new season something interesting should be taking place.

Layout finalised

7th June 2003

Well, here we are then, I've finally decided upon a style and layout for the site. I decided that rather than being too overpowering, I'd go for a simple (bland, if you like) look. Hopefully it's not too boring and to everyone's liking, now all I need is some content!!
